Today, the New Mexico Supreme Court ruled that another candidate cannot be placed on the 2026 General Election ballot. With that decision, I am now officially running unopposed to represent New Mexico House District 4.

Following Representative Joseph Hernandez’s announcement that he is withdrawing from the upcoming general election, I want to thank him for his service to the people of House District 4. I wish Joseph and his family nothing but the best as they move forward, and I will continue keeping them in my prayers.

Legislators are held to a certain ethical standard, and they have a responsibility to be transparent, especially when spending taxpayer dollars. This incident is certainly concerning, and I call upon Representative Hernandez to tell the truth and take accountability for what happened.

The findings outlined in the recent New Mexico Department of Justice report on CYFD are deeply troubling and, frankly, heartbreaking. What should be a system designed to protect our most vulnerable children has, in too many cases, failed them when they needed it most.

Heather Ellison has officially qualified for the ballot as the Republican candidate for New Mexico House District 4 after successfully gathering the required petition signatures. As the only Republican to file, she will advance to the November 2026 General Election.
